Devil Creek Campground, Flathead
National Forest, Montana
Well, that didn't work. Apgar
campground on the west side of Glacier National Park is a zoo.
Completely full. I decided to move down the road just a bit instead
to another National Forest campground. It has almost all the
amenities of Apgar at about ½ the price and is about halfway between
the east and west sides of the park.
I could have stayed at Summit, but this
place is more open so my solar panel gets more sun and the water is
good. The water at Summit campground was brown.
The other thing I did today, besides
moving camp, was get a replacement faucet for my shower. The shower
in the trailer works sort of like a home shower with a knob you pull
up to change from tub to shower. In this case, it changes from the
sink to the shower head. The old one decided not to divert the water
to the shower, so it needed to be replaced. It was only $27, but
it's a 90 minute drive to Kalispel to the RV shop. Replacing it
didn't even need any tools. All the fasteners are hand tightened.
I also explored Hungry Horse Reservoir,
to the west of Glacier. There are campgrounds there, but they are
almost as long a drive to the west entrance of Glacier as this one.
It is a pretty place:
With a huge dam you drive across:
I think I'll explore the east side of
Glacier tomorrow.
I also seem to have escaped the heat,
finally. The highs today were in the mid 70s, not like the mid 90s
at Little Bighorn.
